Of course, if there's something specific you're stuck on, you can always post another thread.

There is no quick guide on how to make a Pokemon game, because that's not an easy task in the first place. Actually, I would recommend setting aside a lot more time than just the tutorial videos for learning and getting used to the software. I'm sorry to say, but if you're getting a headache just from seeing how long they are, then you're not going to fare much better in actually trying to make your game yourself. Yes, the videos are long, but to be fair, you only need to watch about the first 9 or so for the absolute basics. And did you even look at the video playlist he linked? Every video after the first one is a tutorial on how to make a specific part of a Pokemon game (creating maps, events, NPCs, etc.). Don't edit any of the files and don't poke around in the scripts, because if you do you will most likely need to redownload a fresh copy of Pokemon Essentials and start from scratch (I sure did!).Ĭlick to expand. You literally said in your main post that you "don't know where to start, what to do, anything", so of course Keemonto was going to give you the most basic instructions on how to start. Just open up the project, try to understand what all the things are and what they're doing, and watch some tutorials. I don't recommend messing with anything more complex than that right off the bat. I don't have one of those to hand, because I was pretty damn familiar with RMXP from years back before I ever touched Pokemon Essentials. In addition to that playlist, you might go hunting for some straight RMXP tutorials. From there you'll get to the map screen and you can actually explore the contents of the game, which the youtube playlist linked above will help explain to you. If you doubleclick the rxproj file, it should automatically open it in RMXP. This is -not- the Game.exe file–that is not the file you are looking for. In the folder you have for Pokemon Essentials (again, assuming you have RMXP downloaded and installed), there is a file called:Īll RMXP projects are rxproj files.

That means that if you already have RMXP downloaded and installed, you can open Pokemon Essentials in it. For the -most- simple place to start, Pokemon Essentials is a already-created RMXP project. This is a great place to start:īut I'm going to take your post completely at face and give you the -real- starting point. So, right off the bat there are lots of good tutorials out there that'll walk you through the basics.
